Plan of course - Year 7 & 8 Product Design
PROJECTS and ACTIVITIES
D&T is a very practical and dynamic subject in which pupils will work individually, in teams and with Partners in Industry to develop their skills. A wide range of activities take place, from projects lasting one lesson to those that could take a number of weeks.
Our aim is to enable all pupils to achieve their best no matter what their ability.
We aim to do this in a fun way whist still developing their capabilities in a series of ever increasing challenges using the National Curriculum programmes of study.

KEY STAGE 3 COURSE OUTLINE
All students study Design & Technology for years 7 & 8.
In Year 9 students can 'opt' to study D&T to GCSE level. If they decide to opt for D&T they will start their GCSE studies from Septemeber of year 9.
If they do not opt for GCSE D&T then they will stop studying D&T at the end of Year 8.
In Years 7 and 8 each class experiences a wide range of design and make projects.
This is taught through projects based on the use of Resistant Materials, Systems and Control, Graphic Design and Food Technology.
Resistant Materials and Systems and Control are taught in the workshop/studio area for 3 lessons over two weeks. This will be a double lesson one week of 1 hour 40 minutes and a single lesson (50 minutes) the following week.
Food Technology is taught for 2 lessons (1 hour 40 minutes)once every two weeks.
All projects aim to involve a real world design situation in order to stimulate the pupils creativity and to develop the concept of designing for the real world and for real people.
