LEGO TEAM WIN SPACE CHALLENGE!!
On Tuesday the 7th of March 5 talented individuals traveled down to Preston College to take part in a Lego event. The team had to solve some difficult problems using Lego and programming skills to navigate their way through a maze of complex tasks. Olivia, Braelyn, Thomas, James and Sarah used their teamwork skills to put together an awesome robot that managed to solve all the challenges and win the robot challenge.
Unfortunately they did not accumulate enough points ton go through to the national final but a fantastic effort non the less.
Year 9 pupils win Make It Challenge!!!
On Tuesday 21st October a team of eight Year 9s attended the Make It Challenge at Energus, Lilyhall. This is an annual, nationwide, inter-school event set up by The Manufacturing Institute and Nuclear Management Partners to encourage young people to consider manufacturing and engineering as a career path. This year the brief was to design and market a new, low impact nuclear power station, on a 1km square site at Sellafield. They also had to consider incorporating appropriate ‘green’ energy applications, taking into account West Cumbria’s natural resources, for example: wind and/or water. (Most of us decided solar wasn’t a worthwhile option!) They also had to build a model prototype from a construction kit, design a safety suit, posters and a website and consider other ways to market their power station.
